ELEVENTH LETTER

For half a year I fought against the freaks who would throw up their hand in a fascist greeting. That was a pretty fun period of my life, so I’ll tell you about it in more detail.
As I read in the mass media later, the main method of communication between the opposition was the Internet. I’ll tell you right away that I’ve never been involved in politics, my money was enough, but in this case a friend, a brother was hurt and I could not just sit with my hands folded. By the way, in the summer of 2007, an interesting young man has met with me. He knew too much about my biography to be a regular passer-by. We met on the street and went to have lunch at a caf?. He told me a lot about myself then, up to my real first and last name. I had no more doubt that he was a man from the government. I also found out then that there is a pretty thick file on me in the “K” section but nobody intended to use it yet.
— Thank you, Izya — said he with a smile then, — I know what happened with Dima, I know your motives to attack the opposition. I think it’s people like you that will steer the information war in the future.
— No, my friend. I am not going to have anything to do with politics. Let other smartasses rule the country, just don’t bother me and my work. I even agree to pay taxes from my earnings, but you are not going to catch me. Although…
I thought then that when I leave the caf?, I’m going to get handcuffed. They can easily do it. Just a regular guy. Learned the necessary things and made money on them. Sure, never worked against Russia, never took a dime from Russian companies, but a thief nevertheless. Definitely a thief, even if a virtual one.
— Nobody is going to touch you — he said, as if reading my thoughts.
— Why is that? — naively asked I.
— Because even though you are an outlaw, you are working for the good. For the good of the country.
— Honestly? I don’t give a damn about your good. You have your own political games. I am not going to play them. I was just offended by the opposition and that’s it. I don’t give a shit about their movements, just like I don’t about your pro-Kremlin movement. If they wouldn’t touch Dima then, I wouldn’t have even known about NBP or DPNI.
— But you do know. And you did participate in our games.
— It’s just a coincidence.
— Izya, there are no coincidences.
— Ha, so what is it then?
— It’s a will. Whose will we can’t say. But you are destined to be not just a carder but something bigger. Do you believe in fate?
— Partially.
— Well, consider then that it’s your fate
— That’s dumb, — I said.
— Not knowing something does not free you from responsibility, — answered he.
— Responsibility before the law?
— No. It’s all much more complicated. I’m talking about responsibility before him. — said he and pointed his finger upwards.
— Before God? — I shrugged.
— You can call him whatever you want, but your role is predefined. Even though you are not even a pawn yet, but you are already on the chessboard and that says a lot.
He made another sip of tea and left.
Bastard, I had to pay for his tea. Oh well. It’s now that I can say that he was right. But then… Then I continued to cause trouble not being afraid of the “K” section or the FSB. I just continued to avenge Dima. I never even realized that I was sucked into a really big chess game, where we don’t just know Kings or Queens, we don’t even know the Bishops.
Only now I can saw what the WEB is.
Once, in the beginning of the nineties, Bill Gates said that the Internet is not going to live long. He probably had an understanding of the new WEB. Maybe all World Giants know about it? Who knows. But I am sure that for that moment his guide was not his income but his knowledge. Now, sitting in the middle of taiga and writing my letters to you I think about it, about the WEB. We are creating the hacker Silicon Valley. We are creating an answer to the state’s cyber warriors, but all of us know something else too. The Internet is not going to live forever, the Internet will soon die because we are not going to need it. It is just a step for us, a step that teaches us to constantly intake information.
I think I went a little too far in my writing. But that’s fine, you will understand more later. Let’s talk about trouble. Gradually my anger at the opposition started to quiet down. Dima already got better and went home to Yekaterinburg with his Armenian girl. I’ve even been at their wedding. A great couple. I gradually decreased the amount of bots for the attack, giving their IT-specialists a possibility to take care of the problem and practice defending from attacks. And it would have been all fine and dandy if they did not take down the memorial in Estonia.
That really offended me. You know, later, I would always be horrified how the botnet became a way to fulfill every wish and seek justice instead of a way to earn money. There were intense discussions on the hackers’ and carders’ forums about Estonia. For example, in the VIP section of xakepy.ru formed a god team that later, using DDoS’ers from other forums brought down the Estonian Internet. Completely.
The Moldavian commissar of “Nashi”, Konstantin Goloskokov admitted the organization of the DDoS attacks on Estonian websites and with this confession made himself unable to travel to any of the 27 EU countries and the US.
Soon, after the first Estonian sites were brought down, Goloskokov has told the mass media that the Estonian government websites were blocked on the night of the 30th of April “as a result of actions of a group of young computer guys from Transnistria” with direct participation of Goloskokov himself. “This way we and the guys expressed our protest against the politics of government fascism, sponsored by the leadership of the Estonian Republic, — said the commissar of the movement”.
He can now be arrested for these words.
“Those who attacked one of the EU countries in this way have to understand that an arrest warrant can be issued across the entire EU. Some countries outside the EU will do the same thing — such attacks are a crime”, — commented the premier of Estonia Andrus Ansip in an interview with the SmartMoney magazine.
As the magazine reports, this hammer can be potentially brought down on the Runet users who flooded the mailboxes of 46 Estonian members of the government who voted for the disassembly of the memorial with the Victory Day greetings. The mailbox list was spread across LiveJournal in March and then resurfaced after the Bronze Night. Judging by LJ, a few thousand people had used the possibility to cause trouble to the Estonian government.
The measures of the struggle against cyber crime in Europe really do become more and more severe. For instance Germany recently has made changes in its criminal code, directed at the toughening of the punishment (up to 10 years incarceration) for Internet attacks on private companies, government organizations and even private persons.

That site made me laugh then. I really liked the phrase: “as a result of actions of a group of young computer guys from Transnistria”. I don’t want to offend Transnistria, but since when does it have hackers? My dear mass media friends, be realistic. Of course I never chased this dubious glory, my hacker friends don’t chase it either, but why are you making fun of us like this? You set up a different person too. Of course more likely it’s him who is a “computer guy from Transnistria” :) :) :).
I’ll tell you a funny story from the life of hackers:
A journalist asks a hacker:
— Have you heard, they just published a list of countries with the most dangerous hackers?
— Yeah? And who is in the first three?
— The US, Germany and Korea.
— Sorry, friend, we had no other proxies.
